About the Pharmacy Group
Dipak M. Shah, popularly known as “Danny” to his patients, is the founder and CEO of the DMS Pharmacy Group.
Dipak was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat the fifth of six sons of Mohanlal and Mani Ben Shah. His father was a successful grain merchant, and it was expected that Dipak would follow in his father's footsteps as a businessman.
In his youth, Dipak was a notably gifted student who did well in all subjects but showed a special aptitude for mathematics and science.
Soon after graduating from L.M. College of Pharmacy, Dipak worked at Cadila Laboratory. With business opportunities beckoning, Dipak knew the future for his family was in the United States. He made the leap into the land of opportunities in 1977. This may have been the single most momentous decision of his life.

Dipak studied at St. John’s University School of Pharmacy during the day, and interned at Pharmacia Jente Inc in Brooklyn, NY in the evening. He worked around the clock to fulfill his dream to become an entrepreneur while also anxiously anticipating the news of becoming a father.
In 1978, Dipak and his wife Nayana welcomed their first child into the world, Parthiv. Growing up so close to the pharmacy business, Parthiv saw the long hours his parents put in every day and the ups and downs of being business owners. In fact, in his teenage years, he spent many weekends stocking the shelves, working behind the front desk, making deliveries, and learning the ins and outs of the business. Not only did this give him a greater sense of ownership and pride, but it also earned him the respect from the neighborhood customers. So much so that he is lovingly known as “Sonny” (son of Mr. Shah!) at the pharmacy.
Parthiv graduated at the top of his class from his alma mater St. John’s University School of Pharmacy in January 2001. Since joining the business, Parthiv’s focus has been two fold - expanding the DMS Pharmacy group and serving as a voice for pharmacy business owners around the United States.
Today, Parthiv has taken the DMS Pharmacy Group and his father’s dreams to new heights. We now have 21 locations and are continuing to expand. He also serves as the Chairman of the Pharmacist Society of New York State (PSSNY).
Our History
Dipak M. Shah came to the US at the tender age of 25, he had a Bachelor of Pharmacy. He was raised in Ahmedabad, Gujarat India. He worked hard to provide for his family and graduated at the top of his pharmacy class. He was the first one in the family to move across the world and start a new life. He had one suitcase in his hand with some indian snacks that his mom had packed and six dollars! He settled in New York and started his career. He attended classes a St. John’s University School of Pharmacy and interned at Pharmacia Jente Inc Brooklyn, NY. In 1982 he rented space, went to a local hardware store to pick up material to put up shelves and he built his first pharmacy.
With the help of his wife, they raised a beautiful big family. His amazing son, Parthiv Shah, graduated at the top of his class from his alma mater St. John’s University School of Pharmacy in Jan 2001. Parthiv’s dreams and visions also came to life with expanding the group in 2004 and helping more local communities. He is born leader just like his dad, Parthiv felt a strong desire to see more growth in the retail pharmacy business and not let these big box chains take over. He knew he had to take action and became involved in the Pharmacists Society of New York State in 2005 and NYCPS. 2008 he was invited to be on the board for NYCPS. In 2015 he became Vice President of NYCPS and then became President in 2016 and currently serving as Chairman. He has traveled to Albany, Trenton and Washington D.C. to fight for retail pharmacists to continue to practice in independent pharmacies.
Our Mission
Dipak started his pharmacy group to expand the business and serve more communities. He feels a strong compassion for helping the senior citizen community and underserved. His dream and vision for the group is to see local neighborhood pharmacies in all the boroughs of New York City. That dream came true in 2014 when he acquired Avenue C pharmacy in downtown Manhattan. He is determined to continue to expand and be able to serve more neighborhoods around the tristate area. Currently we have at least one store in every borough of New York City and Long Island. In addition, we have several locations all over New Jersey.
